Common Questions

Frequently asked questions.

Everything you're wondering about before you apply.

Do I need to be licensed to apply?

No. Most Protégés join without a Property & Casualty or Life & Health license. As part of the program, we support you through the licensing process so you're fully credentialed before you're running your own book of business.

Is this a full-time or part-time commitment?

The Protégé Program is a full-time commitment. It's built for people who are ready to treat this as their next career, not a side project — the training, licensing, and hands-on agency work all require your full attention to set you up for ownership.

How long does the program take?

Timelines vary by candidate, depending on your background, how quickly you complete licensing, and how fast you reach your sales milestones. Most Protégés move from onboarding through hands-on training and toward agency ownership within about a year. We'll walk through a timeline specific to you during the application process.

Is this a paid job opportunity?

Yes. Protégés are paid throughout their run of the program. Our goal is to support you and set you up for success as you are mentored towards becoming an agency owner. Compensation details are discussed one-on-one as part of the application process, since they can vary based on your experience and path through the program.

Who is this program a good fit for?

We look for driven individuals, career changers, sales-minded professionals, and aspiring entrepreneurs — people who want to build something of their own and are willing to put in the work to get there. A background in insurance isn't required.

Does being a Protégé require any buy-in or down payment?

No. Upon successfully completing the Protégé Program, Farmers Insurance waives your agency capital requirements, so you can step into ownership without a buy-in or down payment.

What happens after I complete the program?

Graduates transition into running their own independently owned and operated Farmers Insurance agency. You'll continue to have support and mentorship from our District 35 team as you grow your business.
